* A style guide is a set of standards for the writing and design of documents, either for general use or for a specific publication, organization or field. The implementation of a style guide provides uniformity in style and formatting within a document and across multiple documents.

This standard establishes the technical content requirements and mandatory style, format and functionality requirements for the preparation of Interactive Electronic Technical Manuals (IETMs) and subsequent revisions required to support the various types of equipment and weapon systems within the Department of the Army and the Department of the Marine Corps.

This 2-part book form consists of the following parts:

  • MIL-STD-40051-1 — Preparation of Digital Technical Information for Interactive Electronic Technical Manuals (IETM)
  • MIL-STD-40051-2 — Preparation of Digital Technical Information for Page-Based Technical Manuals
